According to Steven Stein and Howard E.  Book in The EQ Edge, “Assertiveness involves the ability to communicate clearly, specifically, and unambiguously, while at the same time being sensitive to the needs of other and their response in a particular encounter”.

In my Emotional Intelligence Coaching with “disruptive physicians” as well as physician leadership, I encourage physician clients to use assertive communication in interactions with colleagues, ancillary staff as well as patients.

This week, I received a letter from a Presiding Judge of The Superior of California responding to an assertive compliant that I made regarding my position as the Official Vendor for training, selecting and monitoring Certified Anger Management Providers for Court mandated clients. My assertiveness got the response that I needed.

Like all other Emotional Intelligence Skills, motivation to change must be coupled with practicing daily exercises in skill enhancement for the skills selected by the client for skill enhancement success.

Anger Triggers Are Not Useful In Anger Management

Many counseling and psychotherapist are attempting to offer treatment for ANGER MANAGEMENT. My firm is the largest provider of Anger Management Facilitator Certification in the U.S. I have decided to spend the next 30 days posting information that may be useful persons interested in anger management. The term anger management was invented by Dr. Raymond W. Novaco – UCI School of Social Ecology at the University of Irvine in 1975. Since 1975, many counselors and psychologists have focused on "anger triggers". Unfortunately, the reason or triggers for anger do not in any way offer solutions for it's management. Currently, Emotional Intelligence assessments and skill enhancement is proving the best interventions for anger management. The American Psychotherapy has consistently failed to include anger as an illness. Anger is not listed as a diagnosable disease. Inside, anger is defined as a normal human emotion. It is a problem when it is too intense, occurs too frequently, lasts too long, impacts health, lead to work, school or personal relationships or leads to aggression or violence. Emotional Intelligence coaching and classes are now used in jails, prisons, schools, military bases, courts, healthcare as well as business and industry.

In 1982, my firm, Anderson & Anderson, APC ran a full -page ad in The Los Angeles Magazine. This ad cost Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000. From this ad, we received three calls. One call was from a patient suffering from Schizophrenia without insurance or resources to pay for treatment. The second call was from a Psychologist complimenting us on the ad and the third call was from the President of The California State Psychological Association.  Several years ago, we paid considerable less on three months of Google ads that were equally as successful.

Paid marketing has not worked for us. 

In contrast, blogging, frequent posting on LinkedIn, Twitter, and other social media sites has provided us with a substantial income stream for all of our niches. Our niches include Emotional Intelligence Coaching for “disruptive physicians, Anger Management Facilitator Certification, EQ-i-2.0 Assessments as well as Batterer’s Intervention training, and client workbooks. In addition, we receive daily income from the sale of our client workbooks, Videos and training material.

If your current marketing strategies are not working, consider developing expertise in your niche that is wanted or needed by clients who have the ability to pay. Going with your passion may  work best with hobbies as opposed to business niches.

My small staff and I are all trained in emotional intelligence, it is the theoretical base of our curricula in Anger Management, Batterer’s Intervention, Leadership Coaching as well as Parenting and coaching for “disruptive physicians”.

I use my knowledge in emotional intelligence daily in my LinkedIn posts. My two major competitors are both major medical schools: University of California School of Medicine at San Diego (PACE Program) and The Distressed Physician Programat Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.

The least that you can do to increase your chance of success is to take an Emotional Intelligence Assessment in order to have objective information regarding your strengths regarding emotional intelligence. If you marketing isn’t working, try something different.
