Emotional Intelligence Assessments are increasing in popularity for Chemical Dependency Programs.

Anger management and poor impulse control have always been factors in substance abuse intervention and relapse prevention. Most Substance Abuse CounselorCertification Programs include content on anger management/impulse control. Research has shown that substance abuse clients score low in emotional intelligence.

A recent trend in California is to require Substance Counselors to be certified in Anger Management Facilitation. This greatly enriches the individual coaching as well as classes for anger management and emotional intelligence.

An alternative is for Substance Abuse Programs to contract with Certified Anger Management Providers to provide anger management coaching for clients with court orders to complete anger management as part of a mandated sentence.

Most Certified Anger Management Facilitators (CAMF) use Emotional IntelligenceAssessments as well as skill enhancement in Self-Awareness, Self-Control, Social Awareness and Relationship Management. By using a Pre and Post Test, the intervention can be defined as evidence based.
