On-line Anger Management Classes undermine professionalism

On-line Anger Management Classes cheapens the legitimacy of Anger Management as a discipline

Anger Management is a favorite scam for Internet pirates. Since there are no laws in any state regulating the practice of anger management services, opportunists are free to market and sell cheap, inexpensive and worthless On-line Anger Management Classes to an unsuspecting public.

Judges and Court Officers lack the staff, knowledge or resources to determine the credibility of completion certificates and other documents used to claim attendance in Court Mandated Anger Management Courses

California State Superior Courts lead the nation in listing standards for Anger Management Facilitators. Here is a list of requirements of Court Acceptable Anger Management Providers in California:
·      All providers must have 40 hours of training and Certification in Anger Management.
·      Must use client workbooks designed to teach skills in self-awareness, self-control, social awareness and relationship management.
·      Must use objective Emotional Intelligence Assessments.
·      The Assessment must provide a MAP that identifies the clients' level of Emotional Intelligence skills in the recognizing and managing stress, anger, communication and emotional intelligence.
·      Must offer Post Tests to determines each participants level of success.

One way that consumers can protect themselves from On-line anger management scams is to check with the court to determine if a particular On-line class in question is acceptable to the court. Once the court is aware that the course is On-line, the answer will always be no.

Anger Management Guru: George Anderson, BCD, LCSW, CAMF

Board of Corrections, The Anderson & Anderson model of anger management is the most effective and widely recognized Anger Management curriculum in the world. This model, which has been featured in Los Angeles Times Magazine, focuses on enhancing emotional intelligence and assertive communication while introducing behavior strategies for identifying and managing anger and stress.

The First day of training will focus on Adolescent Anger Management and will use the Anderson workbook “Controlling Ourselves” as the text. A demonstration and discussion of the Bar On 2.0 Emotional Intelligence Assessment will be conducted. This one-day training is designed for Nurses, School Counselors/Psychologists, Substance Abuse Counselors, Case Managers, HR Managers, Clinicians, Probation Officers, as well as staff from group homes, and agencies serving families and youth. This curriculum is currently being used in school districts in Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento, Concord and San Diego, as well as school districts in Texas and Louisiana. In addition, probation departments in Arizona, Kansas, California and Texas use this model.

On the Second day, Adult Anger Management will be examined. A demonstration of the Pre and Post Test will be conducted with a discussion of its usefulness. “Gaining Control of Ourselves,” in conjunction with experiential exercises and videos, will be used to initiate the participants to this intervention. Most major corporations have accepted this model for use by H.R. and EAP Managers.

The Third day of Training is Organizational Emotional Intelligence/Anger Management. This training is designed to prepare the participant to offer workshops or presentations regarding anger management, civility or emotional intelligence a small group format. This is rapidly becoming one of the most requested interventions in anger management.
This training has been conducted for Kaiser Permanente of Southern California the Riverside County Medical Association as well as the Illinois State Bar Association. Participants who attend all three days of this training will receive a free CD containing a 16-hour course on Motivational Interviewing.

A Physician's Testimonial For Emotional Intelligence Coaching

Referrals to Coaching for “disruptive physicians” is Exploding.
It is only January 14, 2012 yet the predicted avalanche of coaching referrals from Hospitals and Healthcare Organizations for “disruptive physicians” is here. Mandating physicians to participate in any type of training or intervention is difficult and frequently challenged. Coaching for “disruptive behavior” is even more problematic because of its’ newness and extreme range of options.
Some observations from a major provider of Coaching for “disruptive physicians”:
  • The following is a partial list of Healthcare Professionals that may be responsible for mandating an alleged “disruptive physician” to enroll in an appropriate intervention program: Credentials Committee, Physicians Well-Being Committee, Risk Management Specialist, CEO or Medical Director. Many, if not most of these professionals are unsure of what takes place in a course or an intervention program for “disruptive physicians” which makes the referral conversation all the more difficult.
  • There is a tendency for those in charge to delay action until the potential for litigation is a concern. Such a delay may make follow through by the physician more difficult.
  • Since the referral options range from a one -week inpatient psychiatric evaluation and thirty days of inpatient psychiatric or substance abuse treatment for “rage a holism”, to an Emotional Intelligence Assessment and skill enhancement coaching, the mandating professional may be reluctant to risk damaging a physicians career by forcing psychiatric treatment for a non-psychiatric/medical condition.
  • Taking a highly skilled surgeon a way from his or her practice, hospital and community to attend a CME Course in another state for three days is often unnecessary and cost prohibitive.
  • Finally, none of the Major Medical Associations have taken the time to evaluate the existing intervention programs for “disruptive physicians” and develop a list or directory of approved providers nationwide.
It is in the best interest of the physician and the Healthcare Organization to carefully review the reputation of the organization and their curriculum to make sure that it is related to skill enhancement in self-awareness, self-control, social awareness and relationship management. Counseling or Psychotherapy is clearly inappropriate for “disruptive behavior”.

Fraudulent On-line Anger Management Classes are cheap and worthless

Certificates used by on-line Anger Management classes to show proof of completion fail to state that the courses were taken on-line. This strategy is designed to manipulate the client and the legal system to the benefit of illegitimate anger management providers.

Southern California leads the nation in providing "fraudulent" Anger Management Completion Certificates for $25 with no questions asked. Judges and Prosecutors based on the limited amount of court time for each misdemeanor case are giving credit for these so called "courses" without verifying the legitimacy of the courses or the providers.

The California State Superior Court is one of the first courts in the nation to require that all providers of anger management must complete a 40-hour Anger Management Facilitator Certification Training followed by 16 hours of continuing education on a yearly basis. Further, each CAMF, Certified Anger Management Facilitator must use client workbooks and a Pre and Post Test for each client.

Prosecutors and other court officers should question the legitimacy of all anger management courses and providers nationwide. The American Association of Anger Management has decided to contact all criminal courts In each state with a list of fraudulent on-line anger management providers. The National Association of Social Workers will be asked to join us in advocating against on-line anger management classes.

Fraudulent Provider List Placed in Van Nuys Superior Court

On Wednesday, January 4, 2012 a group of disgruntle Marriage Counselors, Substance Abuse Counselors and Hypnotists delivered an improvised Anger Management Counselor list to at least one Criminal Court in Van Nuys. Once the list was brought to the attention of the Court Manager, he explained that this list was, in fact, not official and would not be used by any of these courts.

A history of the Approved Los Angeles County Anger Management Provider list may be useful.

§      Approximately 15 years ago, George Anderson was approached by A Los Angeles Superior Court Judge who explained that he was Chair of a Committee of Judges with the responsibility to come up with a list of Anger Management Providers who were trained and use specific client workbooks. He requested copies of the Anderson & Anderson Client workbooks along with a request that any Court Officer who requests, would be given a copy of this workbook.
§      Anderson & Anderson agreed with all of the conditions requested by this committee.
§      Therefore, each January since we began, we have been updating this list for all of the courts in Los Angeles County.
§      The 2012 list from Anderson & Anderson will be hand delivered to all Criminal Counts on January 5, 2012.

How To Increase Your Coaching Income And Improve Your Performance

One of the fastest and easiest ways to increase your coaching income is to announce on your website, blogs and all of your marketing material that you include the Bar On EQ 2.0 Assessment for each new client.
This assessment will also separate you and your practice from coaches who offer little structure and content in their coaching.

This is how your campaign will work:
·      You will contact Anderson & Anderson with the name and e-mail address of your client. You will pay $150 for an on-line Bar On EQ 2.0 Assessment including the clients' report as well as the Coaches's report.
·      You will charge your client $250 for the assessment and whatever you charge for two hours of coaching, debriefing and goal setting.
·      The 15 scales on the Bar On EQ 2.0 Assessment offers a self-report of your client's view of his or her skills on these scales. It educates your coaching client about Emotional Intelligence coaching. Usually new coaching clients don’t know much about coaching. This is a great opportunity to teach them how to make the best use of coaching.
·      The Bar On EQ Results serves to provide the client with the rationale for coaching as well as strategies for skill enhancement.
·      It can give you valuable information about your client that is crucial to the coaching process.

Take a look at the sample Bar On EQ 2.0 Assessment by clicking here: https://www.andersonservices.com/blog/2011/12/bar-on-eq-i-2-0-emotional-intelligence-assessment-now-available-on-line/
