In order to accommodate the
busy schedules of surgeons, we have found it necessary to offer our services
seven days a week at our Los Angeles, Palm Springs or Fairbanks, Alaska offices
or on-site at a location determined by the surgeon.
One Indiana based surgeon
requested meeting at Disney World Theme Park in Orlando, Florida while on
vacation with his family. Most health care organizations are willing to pay
extra to have the services provided on-site at the surgeon’s office.
It is costly for a surgeon to
take time from his or her busy practice to travel out of state to San Diego or
Nashville for a service that he or she is mandated to attend. The financial
loss to the surgeon, the hospital and to the community can be devastating.
Finally, surgeons are
hypersensitive to any intervention that is provided in a group setting.
Confidentiality simply cannot be protected in continuing medical education
courses (CME) or group counseling. Therefore, it is incumbent on the service
provider to reach out to the surgeon in every way possible to make the
intervention offered easy to access.
